According to the announcement, the new drainage solution is part of a $265 million reconstruction program being implemented in the area following the damage caused by superstorm Sandy. The drainage system will consist of 47 Flygt Slimline pumps and 27 smaller Flygt submersible N-pumps in nine pump stations located at various intervals along the 12-mile stretch of road that was severely damaged by the storm. Flygt MultiSmart pump controllers will ensure the efficient operation of the system. Each of the nine pump stations will have a capacity of moving between 25,000 and 35,000 gallons of water per minute.
Installation of the new system will begin before the end of 2013 with part of the new system due to be in operation before summer 2014, Zylem said in a statement.
