The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced July 25 that seven more gates are now open in the new Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport.
The $2.7 billion terminal debuted earlier this year with 21 of its 33 gates in operation; the seven additions make for a current total of 28.
With the opening of these new gates, which are now available for United Airlines and JetBlue operations, both airlines have access to their full allocation within the new terminal.
Officials expect the remaining five gates to become operational over the next 60 days as Delta Air Lines transitions from Terminal B to the new Terminal A.
Airlines currently operating in Terminal A are Air Canada, American, JetBlue and United.
Six more concession and retail offerings have also opened over the past five days: Jersey Mike’s, Law Coffee, the Ink Bookstore, Boardwalk, contactless retailer Nonstop by Hudson, and an additional New Jersey Monthly location.

When it is fully open, Terminal A will host a total of 55 food and retail options, blending locally owned and operated concessions with regional, national and global brands.
These latest developments come on top of last month’s launch of the new United Club, the first of three airline lounges slated to open in the new Terminal A.
“The opening of Terminal A at Newark Liberty is a historic project representing the agency’s largest ever single investment in New Jersey,” said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. “These openings mark an exciting milestone in our vision of delivering state-of-the-art terminals at the airport.”
“As we near completion of the second phase of construction in Terminal A, we are excited for passengers to experience the entire terminal’s world-class customer amenities,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton.
“We are confident the addition of new gates, food and retail concessions are also poised for success as they prepare to serve a projected nearly 14 million passengers this year,” said Michael Kunz, CEO of Munich Airport NJ LLC, which operates Terminal A.
