The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum is marking National Bobblehead Day with its first Cryptid Bobble Series, which includes the notorious Jersey Devil.
While National Bobblehead Day is celebrated annually Jan. 7, the Milwaukee, Wisc.-based museum says it dropped the new series to start the celebration early.
Cryptids are animals that have been claimed to exist but have never been proven to exist, such as the Jersey Devil.
“The Jersey Devil is a mythological creature that is said to inhibit the forests of Pine Barrens in Southern Jersey. The creature is described as a flying biped with hooves and often looks like a kangaroo with a horse or goat-like head,” the museum writes in its description. “It has large bat-like wings, horns, and small arms with clawed hands as well as a forked or pointed tail.
“The legend of a winged creature in this area has been around for some time with a Northwestern indigenous group, the Lenape, who originally populated the Pine Barrens, believing that the area was inhabited by a spirit called M’Sing, that sometimes took the form of a winged deer-like creature,” the description continues.
The Cryptid Bobble Series also includes Bigfoot, Chupacabra, Goatman, Jackalope, Loch Ness Monster, Mothman and Yeti. Each bobblehead is nearly 8 inches tall and individually numbered to 2,024.
They cost $30 each (plus shipping) or $225 for the whole set and are available only on the museum’s website.
“We’re excited to be unveiling the first Cryptid Bobblehead Series in conjunction with National Bobblehead Day,” said Phil Sklar, co-founder and CEO, National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, in a press release. “Many of these cryptids have never had a bobblehead or don’t have readily available bobbleheads, and we think this will be a popular series for collectors and fans of cryptid creatures.”
