Fisher Development Associates broke ground Thursday on a 44-story luxury rental building in Jersey City’s Liberty Harbor North district, the company said.
The 448-unit building at 33 Park Ave. will be the first of two high-rises at the waterfront site, with plans also including the development of a 267-room Marriott hotel, Fisher said in a news release. The firm expects to complete the first tower by spring 2017.
Meantime, Fisher said the entire project is projected to generate nearly 1,000 construction jobs and nearly 200 permanent jobs in the rental buildings and hotel.
It’s the latest development in the city for Fisher, which is based in Purchase, New York. The firm has built properties on the Gold Coast including Liberty Terrace, Liberty Towers and Crystal Point.
“Jersey City’s story continues to be written as it grows into a 21st century urban destination where inspired living spaces blend with art, culture, dining, nightlife and public transportation to create a vibrant live-work-play environment for today’s urban professional and creative class,” Brian Fisher, a principal of Fisher Development Associates, said in a prepared statement. “We’ve been a part of this exciting story with previous developments … (and) are delighted to get started on a new signature property that will radiate energy and life while enhancing the urban fabric of the neighborhood.”
Located at 33 Park Avenue between Luis Munoz Marin Boulevard and Seventh Street, the project has been designed by Perkins Eastman and also calls for a host of amenities and retail space. Fisher has retained the Marketing Directors of Manhattan to market and lease the residences.
“This is another step in Jersey City leading the state of New Jersey in job creation which we couldn’t be more proud about,” Mayor Steven Fulop said in a prepared statement. “We hope that Fisher Development will build here for many more years in future developments and the door is open for that.”
