Doggie day care and wellness Dogtopia is expanding its presence in the Garden State.

As part of a newly signed development agreement, the brand will bring four new locations to the Tri-State area, including two in Passaic County.

The facilities are being launched by Eric and Tara Hudson, a husband-wife team from Denville who became interested in the concept after they adopted a puppy last year and saw firsthand how much value can bring to pet parents.

“We are strong, driven, passionate leaders with a proven track record of success as multiunit franchise owners, having led the development, growth, and operations of some of the most successful locations within the Orangetheory network,” said Tara Hudson. “With three children and a 10-month-old puppy, we thought Dogtopia was the perfect brand to diversify our portfolio and continue showing our family what can be achieved with hard work, drive, and compassion.”

Founded in 2002, Dogtopia bills itself as “the ultimate destination for improving the physical and mental well-being of dogs and pet parents,” offering boarding, spa services and socialization events to help canines feel more comfortable around others. The all-inclusive services also feature top-quality meals prepared according to each pet parent’s request, as well as webcams so owners can check in on their pups while they are away.

With more than 185 locations across the country, Dogtopia is one of the fastest-growing brands in the booming pet services industry.

In New Jersey, Dogtopia can be found in Montgomery, Cherry Hill, Berkeley Heights, Shewsbury, Old Bridge and Union.

Ranked as No. 51 on Entrepreneur Magazine’s annual Franchise 500 list, Dogtopia’s network of franchisees is made up of both single-unit and multiunit operators, including husband and wife teams and sibling duos. It’s also attracted entrepreneurs who have backgrounds with other franchise brands, such as the Hudsons, who have owned and operated three Orangetheory Fitness gyms since 2016 and have one in development.

Alex Samios, chief growth officer of Dogtopia, described the couple as “a perfect addition to the Dogtopia family.”

“Franchisees from the fitness sector have performed extremely well in our leading pet franchise, so partnering with the Hudsons to develop four new locations throughout New Jersey and New York was a natural fit,” Samios said.

This arrangement with the Hudsons – which will include the development of two facilities in Rockland County, N.Y. – continues a streak of new franchise agreements for Dogtopia this year. Last month, the company announced it surpassed 500 signed agreements, propelled by a historic 33-unit deal with a Los Angeles-based family office.
