Kenvue’s Aveeno partners with Mayo Clinic on skincare research

Summit-based ‘s is celebrating 80 years of skincare innovation by teaming up with on a three-year research collaboration.

Aveeno is widely known for its use of oat-based ingredients. The partnership will focus on clinical and scientific research on how those types of formulas can sooth sensitive or compromised skin, according to a press release.

The brand hopes the dermatological research expertise and consumer skin health insights will pave the way for future skincare products.

Minnesota-headquartered Mayo Clinic earns disctinction as one of the best medical centers and research institutions in the world.

Aveeno launched in 1945. It emerged after early research with Mayo Clinic dermatologists demonstrated the skin-soothing benefits of colloidal oatmeal. That led to Aveeno’s first oatmeal bath product. It also helped establish the brand’s reputation for science-backed .

Other research collaborations over the years include a clinical study demonstrating the superiority of Aveeno Triple Oat versus its vehicle control in relieving xerosis and pruritusii.

New Brunswick-based Johnson & Johnson acquired Aveeno in 1999. After the purchase, the brand expanded its research, development and global distribution while continuing to focus on science-backed skincare.

Now the banner is part of J&J spinoff Kenvue. Other brands in the company’s skincare lineup Neutrogena, Clean & Clear, Lubriderm and Johnson’s Baby.

Kenvue Chief Scientific Officer Caroline Tillett said, “We are constantly pushing for innovation, staying on the cutting edge of research and testing, especially within our skin health portfolio. Aveeno was the first brand to formulate colloidal oatmeal, and we are thrilled at the opportunity to collaborate with Mayo Clinic’s multi-disciplinary physicians to enhance our understanding of skin health.”
