Forbes lists Essex County man as NJ’s richest resident

Forbes researched the wealthiest individuals across the country and unveiled its Richest Person In Every State list for 2025. 

Released April 30, the ranking ultimately named 54 entrepreneurs, investors and heirs, including ties. Combined, these individuals “are worth a record $2 trillion combined, up $400 billion since last year’s list,” Forbes noted. 

The publication calculated net worths as of April 25 of this year. 

NJ’s top earner 

of Millburn, the co-founder of , has an estimated net worth of $7.4 billion, putting him in the top spot for New Jersey. 

The New York City-based hedge fund reports $60 billion in assets under management, Forbes noted. 

Now 55, Overdeck “was a math prodigy who won a silver medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad at age 16,” Forbes said. The publication also noted that he has given $380 million through his family’s charitable foundation in support of education. He was named chair of the Princeton-based Institute for Advanced Study in May 2023.

The Garden State was one of five that reported a new No. 1 resident for the year. Overdeck took the position from cable TV mogul , who has a net worth of $5.8 billion.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is the richest person in the country, with a net worth of $388 billion. 

This ranking follows Forbes’ World’s Billionaires list, which also included Overdeck and Commisso. In January, the publication unveiled its inaugural America’s Richest Families list, naming two New Jersey dynasties.
