RWJBarnabas Health on Tuesday appointed Indu Lew senior vice president and chief pharmacy officer and Robert Adamson senior vice president and operational project director, EPIC Implementation, effective immediately.

Lew will be responsible for the oversight and management of the system’s pharmacy enterprise and will provide strategic leadership for its 23 pharmacy divisions.

In her new role, Lew will manage the pharmaceutical supply chain, ensure quality outcomes through performance improvement activities, enhance the use of information systems and work to optimize the overall pharmacy and patient care environments.

Lew will report to Dr. John Bonamo, executive vice president, chief medical and quality officer.

“Throughout her 17-year tenure with the system, Indu has demonstrated an exemplary aptitude for both clinical practice and system leadership,” said Bonamo. “Her administrative experience and her dedication to patient care will be instrumental in advancing the quality of our pharmaceutical endeavors and furthering RWJBarnabas Health as the premier comprehensive health care system in New Jersey.”

Lew began her career at RWJBarnabas Health in 2002 and has held a variety of clinical and leadership positions, most recently as vice president of Corporate Pharmacy. Prior to joining RWJBarnabas Health, Lew worked with leading pharmaceutical companies and health care facilities across the state.

In his new role, Adamson will lead the strategic direction and overall operational and financial aspects of the EPIC implementation.

He will oversee the rollout of the EPIC program to ensure there are no interruptions for patients, physicians, stakeholders or cash flow, working collaboratively with information technology and operational leadership.

“Adamson is a proven leader in improving quality outcomes throughout our system with the use of information systems and technology,” said Barry Ostrowsky, RWJBarnabas Health president and chief executive officer in a statement.

“The dedicated strategic direction that he has provided to our system’s pharmacy divisions will now be realized even more broadly in this significant undertaking, which will further advance the quality of care we provide our community,” said Ostrowsky.

“The implementation of EPIC throughout our system is a complex process that will reap long term benefits for both our patients and our healthcare team,” said Adamson. “I look forward to leading our talented team during the journey of transformational change.”

Prior to joining RWJBarnabas Health, Adamson held clinical and consultant roles in leading organizations across New York and New Jersey.
