New Jersey will soon be home to its first drive-thru Shake Shack.
Scheduled to open Jan. 11 at 240 Grand Ave. in North Brunswick, the popular burger chain’s newest location will offer dine-in, takeout and drive-thru, as well as the pick-up and delivery options via the brand’s mobile app or website.
For Shake Shack, the restaurant marks the company’s 19th in New Jersey and 32nd location with a drive-thru experience.
Known for its made-to-order hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and hot dogs, as well as shakes and custard floats, the brand has grown to more than 500 locations nationally and internationally since its founding 20 years ago by restaurateur Danny Meyer.
The addition of a drive-thru format is part of the chain’s overall response to changing consumer preferences sparked by the pandemic.
After launching its first drive-thru two years ago in Minnesota, Shake Shack has expanded the offering to 30 other locations – the majority of which are in the Midwest as well as one in United Arab Emirates. Developed primarily for the company’s suburban markets, the upgrade has been a win, with the chain reporting that drive-thru stores are generating above average weekly revenue.
According to Shake Shack, North Brunswick will feature a digital menu board, two-lane ordering system and separate pick-up window.
In a statement, Shake Shack Chief Development Officer Andrew McCaughan said, “We are thrilled to bring our first drive-thru Shake Shack to New Jersey to Main Street North Brunswick.”
“We can’t wait to open our doors and welcome the community to enjoy our quality ingredients, warm hospitality, and the convenience of New Jersey’s first drive-thru Shack!” he said.
To celebrate its arrival in North Brunswick, Shake Shack plans to give away branded cold cups and keychains to the first wave of guests. Following its grand opening, Shake Shack will be open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
In keeping with the company’s larger mission of giving back, Shake Shack said it will donate $1 from every burger or sandwich sold opening day at the North Brunswick location to Rutgers Gardens – a 180-acre botanical garden that provides educational opportunities and enjoyment for outdoor enthusiasts.
