Thomas Edison State University is temporarily lowering its visiting student undergraduate tuition rates to match degree-seeking rates for terms starting in May, June or July due to the COVID-19 pandemic, President Merodie Hancock announced Monday.

The university board of trustees approved a reduction of $145 per credit for in-state New Jersey residents and a reduction of $35 per credit for out-of-state students on March 26, to assist students impacted by COVID-19 and are effective beginning with registration for the May 2020 term.

Tuition and fees are subject to change.

The university, which has a campus in Trenton, offers courses to visiting students during the summer or whenever they are filling a gap in a degree program at their home institution.

“We don’t want students to lose their higher education momentum during this crisis,” said Hancock. “This is not the time to charge our visiting students any more than our degree-seeking, enrolled students pay.”

Thomas Edison offers courses in more than 100 areas of study that can be transferred to another college or university. Students receive online course delivery, 24/7 student support, zero textbook cost options and institutional accreditation.

“It’s important that students check first with the advisement team at their home institution to confirm course transferability,” Hancock said. “But, we have been a leader in delivering courses to wherever students happen to be since 1972 and we hope this initiative helps students continue their educational journey during these challenging times.”
