Unilever North America President Fabian Garcia has been appointed president of the company’s global personal care division, responsible for skin cleansing, deodorants and oral care.

Garcia’s appointment was announced alongside a series of leadership changes throughout the company on Jan. 25 and is effective April 1.

Along with several leadership appointments, the company plans to reduce approximately 15% of senior management roles and 5% of junior management roles, eliminating 1,500 jobs globally.

While some of these roles will be in North America, a representative for could not share which, or how many, jobs in that region will be affected.

Unilever’s North American headquarters is in Englewood Cliffs.

“Our new organizational model has been developed over the last year and is designed to continue the step-up we are seeing in the performance of our business. Moving to five category-focused Business Groups will enable us to be more responsive to consumer and channel trends, with crystal-clear accountability for delivery,” said Unilever Chief Executive Officer Alan Jope. “Growth remains our top priority and these changes will underpin our pursuit of this.”
