Property management executive Lynne Aber has been installed as the new president of the New Jersey Apartment Association, making her the first woman to hold the position. In a news release, the NJAA said Aber will serve in that role for its 2016 to 2018 term. She will focus on modernizing the trade association, improving the group’s educational offerings and enhancing government affairs during her term, while directing investments in technology to improve its website and back-office infrastructure.

“The NJAA will work to make it easier for its members to take advantage of everything the association has to offer,” said Aber, the senior vice president and CFO of LPZ Bertram, a property management company headquartered in Union.

Aber, whose firm manages properties across central and northern New Jersey, began her term as president Jan. 20 and will serve in the role until mid-January 2018.

As part of her tenure, the NJAA says it also aims to improve the accessibility and content of its educational offerings, which promote the professional development of leasing agents, apartment managers, maintenance personnel and others who work in the multifamily apartment industry.

In its news release, the NJAA also said it will be actively lobbying on tax policy, housing policy and rent control.

“We are the voice of the industry on issues that matter most to developers, owners and managers of apartment communities throughout the state, and we will continue to promote policies that make rental housing available and affordable for all New Jerseyans,” Aber said.

The NJAA represents both market-rate and affordable housing owners, managers and developers of nearly 190,000 rental homes in New Jersey, as well as hundreds of suppliers to the multifamily housing industry. Those vendors include construction trades, tax professionals and legal professionals, among others.
