Sports betting and gaming entertainment company BetMGM, based in Jersey City, and the Washington Nationals announced Jan. 31 the opening of the first retail sportsbook connected to a Major League Baseball stadium.
Open year-round, the BetMGM Sportsbook at Nationals Park will provide fans a place to watch and wager on games.
“We’re constantly pushing the boundaries to deliver sports fans unique experiences, and that’s just what we’ve done with the new BetMGM Sportsbook at Nationals Park,” Adam Greenblatt, chief executive officer of BetMGM, said in a prepared statement.
Visitors will be able to place wagers directly with cashiers at six betting windows or at betting kiosks. The sportsbook will not be accessible by fans while they are in attendance at a Nationals game, but fans will be able to place bets via BetMGM’s mobile app, which launched in Washington, D.C., in June 2021, allowing users to place mobile wagers within a two-block radius of Nationals Park.
The sportsbook announcement is the latest phase of BetMGM’s multi-year, exclusive partnership with the Nationals.
“The BetMGM Sportsbook at Nationals Park represents the newest way in which we are providing our fans with the best experiences in sports and entertainment,” added Alan Gottlieb, chief operating officer of Lerner Sports, the owner of the Nationals.
The Nationals partnership is the latest in recent moves by BetMGM, including launching its online betting platform in Louisiana and New York as well as its sportsbook scheduled to open on the Arizona Cardinals’ State Farm Stadium campus for the 2022 season — the first sportsbook at an NFL stadium, according to BetMGM.
