Borgata to open July 26, the last of AC’s 9 casinos

Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa will reopen on July 26 after months of closure due to COVID-19. The Borgata is the last of Atlantic City’s nine casino resorts to reopen.

The casino originally planned to reopen to the public July 6, four days after competition planned to, but with Gov. Phil Murphy’s postponement of indoor dining, plans changed.

“Following the governor’s directive to postpone indoor dining, we took a step back to reassess our reopening date to ensure we could give our guests the world-class experience they expect from us, safely,” Melonie Johnson, the Borgata’s president and chief operating officer, said in a statement.

While other casinos scrambled, the Borgata took a step back and set about increasing its outdoor dining and take-out options.

“When we reopen, Borgata will introduce new outdoor dining experiences, as well as a convenient takeout program from several of our fine and casual dining outlets. We appreciate our guests’ and employees’ patience and understanding and look forward to welcoming them back,” Johnson said.

Borgata, an MGM property, will follow MGM’s seven point safety plan upon reopening. The plan includes employee health checks and temperature checks, masks requirements, guest temperature checks at entrance points, a physical distancing policy, polycarbonate barriers where distancing is challenging, standalone handwashing stations on the casino floor, elecrostatic sprayers to disinfect large public spaces, and MGM’s own COVID-19 response team.

The property will adhere to 25 percent capacity limits.
