Co. announced plans April 2 for an auction and reconditioning “megasite” integration in Somerset County to benefit retail and wholesale customers alike.

The online used-car auction company said the move will bring its Inspection and Reconditioning Center capabilities to its existing ADESA wholesale auction location in Manville. It will also maintain digital and in-lane auction operations on site.

Owned by Carvana, ADESA provides wholesale vehicle auction solutions to professional car buyers and sellers. The approximately 100-acre Manville site has served customers for nearly 30 years, Carvana said. A company representative told NJBIZ that the integration will not change the acreage.

Carvana acquired ADESA’s U.S. physical auction business for $2.2 billion in May 2022. The deal included 56 locations totaling approximately 6.5 million square feet of buildings on more than 4,000 acres.

To support the integration, Carvana started hiring new team members. It expects the integration to eventually create about 200 new entry-level and skilled jobs.

“By integrating Carvana reconditioning capabilities at ADESA New Jersey, we are using our existing infrastructure to drive new customer benefits while also increasing our total production capacity and growing more efficient as a company,” Brian Boyd, senior vice president of inventory at Carvana, said in a statement.

For customers, the integration means an improved selection and access to vehicles that can be delivered “as soon as the same or the next day,” Carvana noted. Wholesale buyers will benefit from the enhanced reconditioning operations onsite.

“This Megasite facility will help drive faster delivery speeds for local car buyers, a more robust auction offering for local commercial customers, and more job opportunities for future team members in central New Jersey,” Boyd added.

All Carvana vehicles in its inventory are inspected and reconditioned by technicians and have no reported fire, flood, or frame damage, according to CARFAX and AutoCheck.
