Christine Amalfe, chair of the employment & labor law group at Newark-based law firm Gibbons PC, is taking on the role of president of the New Jersey State Bar Association.
She will be sworn into a one-year term during the NJSBA‘s annual two-day meeting and convention this week in Atlantic City, according to an announcement from Gibbons.
Amalfe is assuming the post from William Mergner Jr., a co-managing partner at Leary, Bride, Mergner and Bongiovanni in Cedar Knolls.
As president of the state’s largest association of judges, lawyers and legal professionals, Amalfe will play a key part in advancing its mission to advocate for the legal profession, promote access to justice and support the independence and integrity of the judicial branch.
During her past three decades as an NJSBA member, she has served the association in various capacities, including:
Amalfe also served six years as an at-large trustee and, more recently, secretary, treasurer, second vice president, first vice president and president-elect.
Commenting on her new position, Amalfe said, “Assuming the presidency of the NJSBA is truly an honor. I look forward to the year ahead, carrying on the mission of this longstanding and venerable organization and serving its valued members.”
Gibbons Managing Director Peter Torcicollo congratulated Amalfe on her rise to president of the NJSBA.
“Given her strong leadership at both the firm and in the broader legal community, coupled with her unwavering dedication to the law, we have no doubt she will make a significant impact at the NJSBA,” he said.
