Cooper cardiologist to head international society

Dr. Andrea Russo, a cardiologist and director of the electrophysiology and arrhythmia service at Cooper University Health, was inducted as the president of the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) at its annual meeting in San Francisco May 8-11, 2019.

HRS is the International Society of Electrophysiologists with over 10,000 members internationally and professionals from more than 70 countries. Founded in 1979, it is the leading resource on Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology in the world.

“Dr. Russo is a compassionate, knowledgeable physician and researcher, providing her patients and their families the highest level of care,” said Dr. Phillip Koren, medical director, Cooper Heart Institute, and associate chief medical officer for Ambulatory Services at Cooper, in a statement

“We are proud that Dr. Russo is on our staff and congratulate her on this achievement.”

Russo has served on numerous HRS committees and task forces, including the Scientific Sessions Program Committee, and is a member of the HeartRhythm Journal editorial board. She received her medical degree from Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. She did her residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and her fellowship training in cardiology and electrophysiology at Cooper University Hospital. She serves as professor of medicine at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.

In 2018, Cooper and Inspira Health Network formed a joint venture to integrate cardiac services. The affiliation, Cardiac Partners at Cooper and Inspira, provides patients in the South Jersey region with access to more coordinated cardiac services across the continuum of care.
