Thomas Scientific, a supplier of scientific and laboratory products, promoted Stan Haas to president and CEO, the Swedesboro company announced April 25.
Haas succeeds Charles Simmons, who served in the role for six years and will continue with the company on the board of directors.
Haas joined Thomas Scientific in 2017, first serving on the board and then moving into the role of chief operating officer. He brings more than 30 years of experience in the scientific-distribution industry stateside and abroad, including leadership positions in sales, operations, strategy and business development, services and global sourcing, the company said.
Before joining Thomas Scientific, Haas held executive positions with Affiliated Distributors and VWR Scientific (Avantor). According to Thomas Scientific, Haas helped evolve VWR from a $300 million U.S.-centric organization to a $4.2 billion global provider of scientific products and services.
“Since joining the Board nearly two years ago, I have had the pleasure of seeing Stan’s passion and expertise for not just serving the scientific community, but improving it,” Lynn Calpeter, board chairperson, said in a statement.
Haas earned an MBA from the University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis, and an undergraduate degree in microbiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
“Leading an industry pioneer with a 123-year legacy of serving science and catalyzing innovation, I’m honored to steer our exceptional leadership team in making the greatest positive impact in our community,” Haas said about his new role.
In January 2022, Broad Sky Partners announced it acquired Thomas Scientific, which was founded in 1900, from global investment firm Carlyle. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. In August 2022, Thomas Scientific expanded its Midwest reach with the purchase of Minneapolis-based North Central Instruments.
