In a press release, the Brick City’s economic development corporation said that the new appointments will improve internal processes and enhance efficiency while further supporting the organization’s innovative programming and operations.

There, he represented financial institutions and for-profit and nonprofit real estate developer-owners finance public-private partnerships with administrative agency-facing transactions. Prior to that, Gulati was deputy attorney general in the New Jersey Division of Law, focused on real estate and public finance transactions. He also served as an assistant general counsel at the New York City Housing Development Corp.

“I’m excited to join and become fully ingrained in the important economic development and community-building work the organization does,” said Gulati. “I’m very grateful I found an organization with which I have mission alignment and where I could make an immediate impact. I’m eager to put my skills to immediate use to help contribute to the Newark community.”

Meyerson previously served as the deputy chief technology officer for broadband for the City of New York, where he led implementation of the Internet Master Plan. He was also a founding employee and senior director of operations for WiredScore, a venture-backed global broadband and real estate technology company.

In his new role, Meyerson will support the initiative to bring broadband to all city residents while attracting, retaining and expanding high-growth business in the city.

“All aspects of society nowadays are reliant on technology. The pandemic made it starkly clear that access to education, health care and the modern economy, have been substantively tied to internet access,” said Meyerson. “I am passionate about enabling expanded broadband to residents of Newark regardless of socioeconomic status and am excited to be joining Invest Newark to make real strides to address the digital divide across the city.”

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka described Meyerson as an outstanding and experienced leader.

“He represents the excellence that defines our city,” said Baraka. “Mr. Meyerson will lead our collective effort to bring Newark fiber and free or low-cost broadband to all residents of Newark, regardless of their income or neighborhood they live in, which is critical to the lives of its residents, now and in the future.”
