The nation’s second-largest retail tax preparation services provider, which has its headquarters in Jersey City, is welcoming new leadership as its current chief executive officer prepares to leave his post next month.
On Tuesday, Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Inc. said Greg Macfarlane will serve as the company’s next CEO and president, beginning on June 15.
Macfarlane, who most recently served as chief operating and financial officer for Casper Sleep Inc., has served on Jackson Hewitt’s board of directors for two years. Prior to joining Casper, Jackson Hewitt said he held a number of leadership roles at H&R Block, including senior vice president of products and operations and chief financial and strategic officer.
Outgoing chief executive Alan Ferber, who will remain as a member of the board of directors, and Macfarlane will overlap through the former’s departure, set for July 15, according to the company.
“Greg has deep knowledge of the tax services industry as well as significant digital and retail experience, and I believe he is the ideal leader to continue and expand on the tremendous progress under Alan’s leadership,” said Richard Thornburgh, chairman of the board of directors and senior advisor to Corsair Capital. “Alan built an inspirational culture of service and innovation, and we are pleased that he will continue to serve on the board.”
Jackson Hewitt boasts nearly 6,000 franchised and company-owned locations, including 3,000 in Walmart stores and online.
