L’Oreal USA has broken ground for a new office building in Berkeley Heights that is scheduled to open in 2009.L’Oreal USA has broken ground for a new office building in Berkeley Heights that is scheduled to open in 2009. It will house roughly 400 workers and serve as the company’s New Jersey headquarters, the company said.

L’Oreal USA’s corporate headquarters will remain in New York City. The building will bring together groups of employees that are currently in different New Jersey locations, the company said. L’Oreal has 2,800 employees in the Garden State in manufacturing, distribution, and research and development.

L’Oreal USA’s relationship with the state began in 1953 when the company’s forerunner, Cosmair Inc., opened in Clark with a staff of 20 to become the exclusive U.S. licensee for the L’Oreal Group. L’Oreal USA now has 7,500 employees nationwide; its 2006 sales exceeded $4 billion.
