Ahead of his return to the White House in January, President-elect is announcing who he wants to fill Cabinet positions and other key roles in his administration.

Just days after his election victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, the Republican began rolling out his nominees and appointees. The list features some of Trump’s biggest allies on Capitol Hill and closest advisors to his 2024 campaign.

In addition to politicians, like Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, and billionaire entrepreneurs, such as Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, the picks include several well-known New Jerseyans.

Dr. Mehmet Oz

Trump selected longtime Bergen County resident, TV personality and celebrity doctor Dr. Mehmet Oz as administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, an agency within the Department of Health & Human Services.

During the early 2000s, Oz became a household name thanks to frequent appearances on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” He also went on to host his own daytime talk show.

Oz has been accused promoting weight loss products unsupported by scientific research, as well as pushing questionable medical claims. An example includes a debunked theory that anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine could treat COVID-19.

In 2022, Oz unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania. Trump endorsed him in that campaign.

According to Trump, Oz will work closely with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the nominee to lead the Department of Health & Human Services.

“America is facing a Healthcare Crisis, and there may be no Physician more qualified and capable than Dr. Oz to Make America Healthy Again,” Trump said in his announcement. “… Dr. Oz will work closely with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to take on the illness industrial complex, and all the horrible chronic diseases left in its wake.”

The post requires Senate confirmation.

Charles Kushner

Charles Kushner was tapped to serve as U.S. ambassador to France. Kushner is the founder of Kushner Cos., a prominent New York-based real estate firm with an big presence in New Jersey, and father of Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

“He is a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, & dealmaker, who will be a strong advocate representing our Country & its interests,” Trump wrote in a social media post.

The president-elect also noted the connection to Jared Kushner, who is married to Trump’s daughter Ivanka.

“His son, Jared, worked closely with me in the White House, in particular on Operation Warp Speed, Criminal Justice Reform, & the Abraham Accords,” Trump wrote in his post. “Together, we will strengthen America’s partnership with France, our oldest Ally, & one of our greatest!”

Trump pardoned Kushner in 2020 after serving a prison sentence on federal charges of tax evasion and illegal campaign donations. In 2005, he pleaded guilty to 16 counts of assisting in the filing of false tax returns, one count of retaliating against a cooperating witness and one count of making false statements to the Federal Election Commission.

Kushner served two years in prison before returning to his real estate business.

The Senate must confirm all U.S. ambassador nominees.

Susie Wiles

Named just two days after Trump’s election win, Susie Wiles will serve as the first female chief of staff at the White House.

“Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns,” the president-elect said in a statement.

“Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected,” he said, adding, “Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again.”

The daughter of the legendary New York Giants kicker and sportscaster Pat Summerall, Wiles grew up in Saddle River. Now a Florida resident, her political career includes working on Ronald Reagan’s presidential campaign and in his administration, as well as for the vice-presidential campaign for Dan Quayle. She’s also helped with gubernatorial runs for Ron DeSantis and Rick Scott.

Outside of politics, Wiles has worked in the private sector as a lobbyist for Ballard Partners and Mercury.

She does not need Senate confirmation to serve in the post.

Jared Isaacman

A billionaire entrepreneur from Central Jersey, Trump named Jared Isaacman administrator of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

In a post, the president-elect described Isaacman as an “accomplished business leader, philanthropist, pilot, and astronaut.” Trump said he will “drive NASA’s mission of discovery and inspiration, paving the way for groundbreaking achievements in space science, technology, and exploration.”

Unity Bank donated $50,000 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as part of the Inspiration4 campaign, a $200 million fundraising initiative led by Lehigh Valley resident Jared Isaacman, founder and CEO of Shift4 Payments, headquartered in Allentown, Pa. The campaign is inspired by the world's first all-civilian mission to space.

“Over the past 25 years, as the Founder and CEO of Shift4, Jared has demonstrated exceptional leadership, building a trailblazing global financial technology company. Jared’s passion for space, astronaut experience, and dedication to pushing the boundaries of exploration, unlocking the mysteries of the universe, and advancing the new space economy, make him ideally suited to lead NASA into a bold new era,” the president-elect said.

After growing up in Union County, Isaacman later attended Ridge High School in Somerset County, but dropped out to start a website design company. He later went on to found payment processing company Shift4 in the basement of his parent’s home. The now Pennsylvania resident also co-founded defense firm Draken International, which sold to Blackstone in 2019.

Isaacman has not worked at NASA or in the federal government. However, he has close ties to Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX that Trump tapped to lead a “Department of Government Efficiency.”

Isaacman has flown to space twice on commercial SpaceX missions designed to test technologies and maneuvers for exploration beyond Earth’s orbit. He funded both of those spaceflights himself for an undisclosed sum.

The position requires Senate confirmation.
