World Insurance Associates may be the most acquisitive company in New Jersey. As of Jan. 7, the Tinton Falls-based insurance brokerage had completed 140 acquisitions since its founding in 2012. And by the time you read this, the number will undoubtedly be higher as the dealmaking is almost nonstop. WIA now operates from more than 160 offices in the U.S.
Phil Nisbet stands at the center of all that dealmaking activity. Nisbet is the company’s director of mergers and acquisitions — and he keeps busy.
For this edition of NJBIZ Conversations, Editor Jeff Kanige spoke with Nisbet about the metrics WIA uses to evaluate potential targets, what the integration process looks like and where the company sees opportunities for growth.
“We found that the customers, especially benefits customers, expect us to have a robust 401(k) capability,” he said. “So when when we come in and talk to them about their health insurance, disability insurance, the next question is, can you can you help me with my 401(k). And so we’ve been building that out and are looking to grow faster than the rest of the company in that space, in particular, also with payroll and HR consulting.”
