The party isn’t over, but it’s smaller.
Party City will permanently close 21 stores across the country.
The Rockaway-based company made the announcement Friday with the release of its first quarter 2020 results. The store closures are part of a “store optimization program” under which it closed approximately 55 Party City stores during the course of 2019.
The company plans to open two new stores, in addition to 10 new stores that will likely open in 2021.
A Party City spokesperson did not immediately return an inquiry about optimization’s effect on the 26 Party City stores in New Jersey.
