Rutgers University will reduce campus fees charged to all full-time and part-time students on its New Brunswick, Newark and Camden campuses 15 percent, according to a letter sent to students from President Jonathan Holloway on Thursday.
The news comes in addition to a tuition and fee freeze announced by the university in June due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Holloway said that with the guidance of Rutgers’ Chief Financial Officer Michael Gower, the 15 percent reduction is a recognition of the financial hardship that many families are facing, and will better reflect the services and resources that this fee traditionally has funded.
“For full-time undergraduate students, this change will translate to at least a $300 reduction in their term bills this fall,” Holloway’s statement reads.
Rutgers’ announcement follows that of other institutions, such as Montclair State Unversity, which announced on Wednesday that it was freezing fees, and Princeton University, which said on July 7 it would bring approximately half of its undergraduates to campus each semester—yet most teaching will be done remotely, with students receiving a 10 percent discount in tuition.
