Shawn Andrews’ Groovy Smoovies coming to Ocean City

A Hollywood-inspired smoothie shop co-founded by former Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Shawn Andrews and entrepreneur Antonne Jones is opening its second spot in New Jersey.
Scheduled to premiere May 25 at 611 E. 8th St. in Ocean City, Groovy Smoovies offers fresh pressed juices and specialty smoothies named in honor of classic flicks, such as “the Philly Wonka,” “West Side Smorey,” “Beauty and the Peach,” “Purple Reign” and “the Green Smile.”
Launched three years ago in the historic district of Haddonfield, the concept combines classic movies with classic smoothies.
The family-friendly shop is decked out like an old-time movie theater, with a light-up marquee, red velvet rope queue, popcorn machine and a box office ticket booth, which is where customers order their drinks. There is also a flat screen that shows classic films all day.
Since opening, Groovy Smoovies has earned local and regional accolades, as well as been featured in news segments on networks like ABC and NBC.
The brand also established a franchising program in November 2022 and expects to add more locations in New Jersey in addition to debuting in new markets, such as Florida and Pennsylvania.
Jones is a screenwriter, filmmaker and author, as well as longtime business associate of “Shark Tank” star and business mogul Daymond John. In December 2022, John helped support his friend by hosting a standing room-only party to celebrate the official kick-off of Groovy Smoovies franchising efforts.
Andrews had no prior experience in the smoothie business but thought the idea was a great opportunity to work with a friend.
“Antonne and I have been friends for years and always bounced different business ideas off one another,” Andrews said. “When Antonne mentioned opening a movie-themed smoothie shop, I was on board right away. Who doesn’t like a great smoothie and movie?”
The new shop is located in the hotel district of Ocean City, just one block away from the boardwalk and two blocks from the bustling business district along Asbury Avenue.
