Sills Cummis & Gross in Newark elevated three attorneys, including one to member and two to of counsel.

Stephen Klein, a resident of the firm’s Newark office, was promoted to a member of the firm in its litigation group; Rachel Brennan, a resident of the firm’s Newark office, was promoted to of counsel in the creditors’ rights and bankruptcy reorganization group; and Matthew Canini, a resident of the firm’s New York City office, was promoted to of counsel in the firm’s litigation group.

Klein focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation and is admitted in New Jersey and New York. Brennan focuses her practice on complex corporate restructurings, including large Chapter 11 cases and related proceedings and is also admitted in New Jersey and New York. Canini focuses his practice on complex commercial and real estate litigation in both state and federal courts and, in addition to being admitted in New York and New Jersey, is also admitted to practice in Florida.

Elevations were effective Oct. 1, according to an Oct. 6 announcement.

Keith Hemming and Frank Vitolo joined Sills Cummis & Gross in Newark as members of the firm.

Hemming joins the litigation department and will chair the construction and energy law practice. Vitolo joins the real estate department and will co-chair the statewide land use practice.

Hemming joins Sills Cummis from McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter LLP, where he practiced for 18 years, and Vitolo joins from Riker Danzig Scherer Hyland & Perretti LLP, where he practiced for 17 years.

Hemming focuses his legal practice on commercial law with an emphasis on representing owners, contractors, renewable energy firms, designers and manufacturers of building products. He advises clients on complex commercial transactions and litigates claims in various federal and state courts, as well as arbitration tribunals regarding the design, procurement and construction of infrastructure.

Vitolo focuses his practice on planning, zoning and redevelopment law. He served as lead development counsel for a number of major real estate projects in the Morristown area, including the planning and redevelopment of Deloitte’s new New Jersey headquarters, M Station Morristown. He’s obtained favorable outcomes for clients in complex partnership and real estate disputes, and won dismissal of various commercial claims and consumer fraud actions in federal and state courts, according to a statement on his addition to the firm.
