The Casino Control Commission granted approval for Landry’s Inc. to move another step forward in its purchase of Trump Marina.

The commission unanimously approved Landry’s plans for the casino, which would be rebranded under the company’s Golden Nugget name, and granted the company interim casino authorization.

Tilman Fertitta, owner of Houston-based Landry’s, can now close on the property. The $38 million used to purchase Trump Marina will go into a fund while, according to the commission, “a complete investigation into the firm and its principals is completed and a hearing is held on their qualifications.”

According to Linda Kassekert, chair of the commission, Landry’s already has begun refurbishing the property.

“With the combination of additional marketing and an overhaul of the property to a recognized brand, Mr. Fertitta will redefine the property for the new generation of Atlantic City patrons,” she said.
