Of more than 300 name partners at New Jersey’s top firms, only 5 are women. According to the 2018 National Association of Women Lawyers Survey, men and women are represented relatively equally in law school graduates and at the associate level. But, although women make up 47 percent of law firm associates, they make up 30 percent of non-equity partners, and 20 percent of equity partners.
Breaking the mold
Some government procurement programs favor women-owned business, and a number of programs “in New Jersey in general, and Newark in particular, encourage women entrepreneurs in general,” said Zago Manufacturing Chief Executive Officer Gail Friedberg Rottenstrich. “But not so many in manufacturing. There could be more.”
