Amtrak will debut new high-speed Acela train cars on the Northeast Corridor in 2021, providing better amenities and a smoother ride to passengers.

The trainsets are being manufactured at Alstom’s Hornell, N.Y., facility and each one will offer more seating capacity with 378 seats.

Amtrak said the new train cars will feature convenient dining options, offer easy access and greater selection; and an advanced seat reservation system with onboard Wi-Fi, personal outlets, USB ports and adjustable reading lights at every seat.

Onboard information systems will provide real time information such as location, train speed and conductor announcements and the trains will include accessibility features for people with disabilities in addition to restrooms with touchless features and a 60-inch diameter turning radius; streamlined overhead luggage compartments; larger windows and winged headrests for added comfort; safety systems to provide real-time monitoring; interior safety details like handles integrated into the seatbacks to aid customers walking through the train, grab bars for stability and gap fillers to cover the space between the train and the platform.
