Atlantic City casinos recorded a strong June showing, according to figures released July 16 by the state Division of Gaming Enforcement.
“In June, casino win surpassed internet revenues, displaying the casino industry’s resilience and focus on providing a world-class experience for visitors in Atlantic City,” said New Jersey Casino Control Commission Chairman James Plousis. “Competition for in-person gamblers was strong, and overall monthly revenues show an improvement in all three categories – casino win, internet gaming win and statewide sports wagering.”
Key figures from the June gaming report year-over-year trend:

Jane Bokunewicz is faculty director of the Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality, and Tourism, Stockton University School of Business. She said that the 6% year-over-year increase is an encouraging sign for Atlantic City’s casino operators – also noting one less Saturday this past June versus 2024.
“The increase continues the momentum of May’s nearly 11% year-over-year increase in total (brick-and-mortar) casino win,” said Bokunewicz. “The positive revenue growth in brick-and-mortar win so far this summer has offset revenue declines in the first quarter resulting in a tailwind of a 1.7% year-over-year increase year to date heading into the peak summer tourism season.”
She did point out that the largest gains came from table game win ($76.2 million). That subset reported a 27% year-over-year increase.
“Leaving slot operations (usually the industry’s ‘bread and butter’) essentially flat at a decline of 0.7% year over year,” she explained. Slot machine win in June was $182.8 million. “Because of the general volatility of table games revenue, it is unclear if this month’s gains were because of increased spending or because of the comparative luck of the players vs. the house.”
Internet gaming rose again. And while a new record was not set in June in that area, Bokunewicz said the performance is in the top five for single month returns.
“Atlantic City casinos and their partners realized a 23.5% year-over-year increase for the month and a 22.7% increase for the year to date,” said Bokunewicz. “Aided by the updraft of internet gaming and a respectable showing from sports wagering (win was on par with last month, despite a slight decrease in handle), Atlantic City continued a trend of positive total gross gaming revenue gains.
“Those gains will be important to sustain with the imminent expansion of casinos in downstate New York.”
“A recent industry observation outlined the many efforts and successes in town despite some economic challenges and how significant capital investments at the casinos and a strong marketing campaign have combined for a positive outlook going into the summer months,” said Plousis.
Plousis said that, clearly, the Atlantic City gaming industry remains not only a very powerful economic engine. “But also, a significant contributor to New Jersey’s programs benefitting senior citizens and the disabled.”
Bill Pascrell III, gaming expert and partner at Princeton Public Affairs Group, said June’s numbers confirm what we’ve seen all year.
“New Jersey’s gaming industry is delivering strong, diverse growth in every area,” Pascrell told NJBIZ. “A 53% spike in sports wagering is very encouraging, and it shows the sector’s potential for rebound when innovation and smart policy are connected.
“With that said, growth isn’t a guarantee,” he continued. “It’s the result of years of strategic investment and an open conversation between operators and policymakers. iGaming continues to rise, and retail casinos are proving their staying power with offerings tailored to the modern consumer.”
