Six Flags Great Adventure is revealing more details about the world record-breaking set to premiere next summer in Ocean County.

Bakunawa is named after a legendary sea serpent of Philippine mythology. The ride will blend cutting-edge engineering with immersive thematic design. According to the -based theme park, it will deliver “an experience unlike anything in the world.”

After demolishing the Kingda Ka coaster in early 2025, Six Flags began constructing what will be its 15th roller coaster.

According to Six Flags, uses three high-speed launches to propel riders to speeds of up to 100 miles per hour before climbing its 382 foot tower. Riders sit in floorless, free-spinning seats that also rotate naturally throughout the 2-minute, 17-second trip to create a different combination of spins, views and sensations every time.

Bakunawa ranks as one of the five tallest roller coasters on the planet. Additionally, it will earn bragging rights as the world’s:

  • Fastest spinning coaster 100 miles per hour
  • Tallest spinning coaster 382 feet
  • Fastest inversion 80 miles per hour
  • Longest stall inversion
  • First floorless spinning coaster
  • First upside-down launch

Six Flags recently reported that crews installed the final section of track, moving onto the next phase of construction. Work now shifts toward electrical infrastructure, ride control systems, mechanical installation, queue construction and operational components to prepare the attraction for testing.
