Six Flags Great Adventure is celebrating the completion of a project that transformed one of its most popular midway areas.
Following a months-long refresh, the Boardwalk includes new attractions and updated foodservice options, according to the Jackson-based theme park.
Now known as Shoreline Pier at the Boardwalk, the upgraded zone was designed to evoke “the electricity, nostalgia and unmistakable charm of New Jersey’s iconic oceanside amusement piers,” Six Flags said.
Attractions at Shoreline Pier include:
It also features boardwalk-inspired bites that range from savory favorites to sweet treats. Highlights include fresh-cut fries, classic corn dogs, funnel cake sundaes, chocolate-dipped fruit and Rita’s Italian Ice.
The entertainment lineup calls for stilt walkers, live music and roaming performers throughout the day. Additionally, a nighttime event will feature stage shows with singers, dancers and acrobats, according to Six Flags.

Six Flags Great Adventure Park President Mike Fehnel shared, “Shoreline Pier represents so much more than new rides. We’ve created an experience that celebrates the sights, sounds and flavors of the Jersey Shore while giving families even more reasons to spend an entire day making memories together.”
During a June 30 grand opening ceremony, Six Flags Great Adventure representatives were joined by Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell, local officials and community leaders in marking the milestone. Festivities included shattering a commemorative bottle to officially welcome guests into Great Adventure’s newest themed destination.
Caldwell recognized the significance of Shoreline Pier as a new tourism asset for the state. He also highlighted the role that destinations like Great Adventure play in driving economic growth, supporting jobs and attracting visitors from across the region.
The investment is park of a broader growth strategy that includes construction of a new “multi-world-record-breaking launch roller coaster.” According to Six Flags, that attraction will debut next year on a plot next to the now-demolished Kingda Ka coaster.
Dubbed “Project Purple,” Great Adventure’s 15th roller coaster is expected to be one of the world’s tallest roller coasters. Earlier this week, the theme park reported that crews installed the final section of track and are moving onto the next phase of construction.
After noting Shoreline Pier’s launch and the continue rise of Project Purple, Fehnel said, “This is one of the most exciting times in our park’s history.”
“Project Purple has become a symbol of the incredible momentum taking place at Six Flags Great Adventure,” he said. “Reaching this milestone is a tremendous accomplishment for our construction partners and our team. While guests can now see the coaster in its entirety, a great deal of work remains as we prepare the attraction for its next phase.”
According to Six Flags, Project Purple has reached its full height of 375 feet. Work now shifts toward electrical infrastructure, ride control systems, mechanical installation, queue construction and operational components that will prepare the attraction for testing.
Additional enhancements throughout the park this season include newly installed track sections on El Toro for a smoother ride experience, improved Wi-Fi connectivity and refreshed dining locations designed to enhance the overall guest experience.
