Middlesex County, in partnership with The Sports Facilities Cos., officially unveiled NEXUS June 29 as the name of its new sports and entertainment destination in Edison. The partners also named a native of the municipality, Katie Eskin, as the project’s first general manager.
Scheduled to open this fall, the hub brings together the county’s new multipurpose stadium, the NEXUS Fields at Thomas A. Edison Park and a full-service restaurant inside the new Middlesex College Student Center. It will will serve as a year-round destination for youth and professional sports, collegiate athletics, entertainment, dining and community events.
The announcement marks another major milestone for Middlesex County’s Community, Innovation and Opportunity (CIO) Strategic Investment Plan.
The blueprint is transforming the Middlesex College campus and surrounding area into a regional destination centered on recreation, education, workforce development and economic growth. It also builds on the county’s broader investment strategy highlighted in the June 29 NJBIZ Middlesex County Focus section.

Eskin, an Edison native and current resident, will oversee operations across the NEXUS campus. Her purview includes the stadium, adjacent plaza, athletic fields and restaurant. Eskin brings nearly two decades of experience in professional sports, entertainment and live-event management. She most recently held leadership roles with Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and previously worked with Madison Square Garden and IMG.
“NEXUS represents far more than a destination – it reflects our belief that Middlesex County should continue leading by investing in places that create opportunity, strengthen community, and inspire future generations,” said Middlesex County Commissioner Director Ronald Rios. “Our investment elevates our residents’ quality of life, attracts regional visitors, and generates long-term economic and cultural impact.”
“It’s incredibly exciting and humbling to return home and help lead a project of this scale,” said Eskin. “I grew up here and experienced firsthand how sports and community spaces can shape people’s lives.”
She added, “This destination has the potential to become something truly special – a place where athletes pursue big goals, families create traditions, students build connections, and visitors experience the energy and spirit of Middlesex County.”
Earlier this month, Middlesex County selected SFC to oversee operations at the destination. Eskin’s appointment represents the next step as NEXUS prepares to welcome its first events later this year.
“Katie is a dynamic and accomplished leader with a strong track record across sports, entertainment, and live events,” said SFC Vice President of Venue Management Adrian Moses. “She understands how to build teams, create meaningful partnerships, and deliver experiences that connect with both communities and guests.
“Just as importantly, her passion for Middlesex County and her vision for what this complex can become make her an outstanding fit for this role and for this partnership.
