Essential oils supplier Berjé Inc. promoted Elené Costan to chief human resources officer, the Carteret company announced April 21.
Costan joined the 70-year-old family-run company in 2020 as vice president of human resources and was promoted to senior vice president of human resources in 2021. In her new role, Costan, who has 20 years of experience in human resources, will continue to work closely with CEO Gillian Bleimann-Boucard and President Brian Hart.
She is responsible for fostering employee development by creating and executing programs that reinforce the company’s values of integrity, industry leadership, legacy, passion, accountability and diversity.
Bleimann-Boucard said in a statement, “This promotion highlights Elené’s demonstrative and valuable role in Berjé’s unwavering commitment to our people.”
At Berjé, Costan has spearheaded employee benefits programs including implementing a living wage increase, a tuition reimbursement program, coaching and training programs, and no-cost additions to employee medical coverage plans based on employee needs that include wellness and nutrition and coverage for IVF treatments. She is also helping to launch an internship program this fall.
“Ensuring that every team member has an avenue for their voice to be heard and valued is critically important to the continued success of any organization,” Costan added. “I’m grateful to Gillian and Brian for truly believing in the strategic value that HR can provide to the company and for trusting me to carry out Berjé’s values and serve as an advocate for our employees.”
Costan earned a bachelor’s degree in business from New York University, where she also earned her Certified Human Resources Manager certification. She is a Certified Human Resources Executive through the Society of Human Resources Managers, where she serves on the association’s Legislative Committee.
