Big SNOW at American Dream in the Meadowlands will reopen May 27. – GABRIELLE SAULSBERY
Big SNOW American Dream, the indoor ski and snowboard hill in the American Dream mega mall, will reopen May 27 after months of being closed to remediate damage from an off-hours electrical fire in the fall.
SNOW Partners, the Montville company that owns Big SNOW along with Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon, announced May 11 that the doors to the indoor ski hill will reopen at 1 p.m. with a Memorial Day beach party, including DJ entertainment, live ice-sculpting, complimentary photo shoot sessions and an opportunity to meet and ride with athletes from Burton.
Door prize giveaways will occur throughout the day, including 50% off return visit vouchers.
“We are excited to reopen Big SNOW to guests this Memorial Day Weekend,” said SNOW Partners Director of Resorts Marketing & Sales Trish McLeod. “We thank our visitors and team for their patience as we’ve worked diligently to resume the full operation of the facility. We are appreciative of all the hard work that has gone towards this reopening and look forward to welcoming guests back to our slope where we offer endless winter fun right here in New Jersey.”
In a nod for tackling last September’s fire, Big SNOW’s ceremonial “first chair” will honor representatives from various responding fire departments.
A fire broke out at 4:15 a.m. on Sept. 25, 2021, at the 16-story, 180,000-square-foot facility. At the time, Big SNOW’s Instagram said it would be closed through at least Oct. 2, but reopening was pushed back several times. Responding firefighters and their families will get discounted tickets all summer.
“We are tremendously thankful for the quick response and efforts made by the local fire departments last fall,” McLeod said. “These complimentary tickets are just a small token of our appreciation. At Big SNOW, every day is a snow day, so we hope to see local firefighters and their families cool off and hit the slopes this summer.”
A two-hour ticket to the slopes, including rentals, outerwear, and access to instructors, runs $69 to 89. Those who don’t need rentals can slide in for $39 to $49.
