The Newark Regional Business Partnership’s annual Transportation Awards Breakfast recognizes industry leaders working in the state’s largest city along with the assets that help people get around the city, facilitating its position as a business center.
The 2022 program will be held May 16 at the Newark Public Library with former mayor and current U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, a Democrat, delivering the keynote address.
Leadership awardees are chosen by the NRBP Transportation Council; according to the organization, comprised of professionals representing a range of firms and agencies specializing in the industry. This year’s event also continues a recent tradition wherein the Leadership honorees nominate frontline workers for recognition.

In 2021, those recognized included Mayor Ras Baraka, New Jersey Transit President and CEO Kevin Corbett, former state Sen. Loretta Weinberg, representatives from Lyft, United Airlines, and others. During the 2022 event, 16 Leadership winners and 16 frontline workers will be honored.
“The NRBP Transportation Council is pleased to recognize these leaders for their selfless efforts, all the more important during this COVID pandemic period and we appreciate their efforts to make the greater Newark area a better, safer and connected location,” said chair of the Transportation Council, Bernie McNeilly, who serves as Northeast region president for WSP USA.
Booker’s remarks will cover the impact of the Gateway program; investments in infrastructure, generally; and recognize the efforts and commitment of frontline workers to keep transportation systems operating, especially amid the pandemic.
“Transportation workers have served on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I am excited to join the Newark Regional Business Partnership to honor their vital work,” Booker said in a statement. “I also look forward to highlighting the historic investments in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that will rebuild the region’s infrastructure and advance the critical Gateway project. These investments will create jobs, support New Jersey businesses, and boost our nation’s global competitiveness.”
