Burlington to unveil refreshed store format in NJ (photos)

Burlington Stores is debuting a refreshed in New Jersey.

Scheduled to open this fall at in , the location will feature a more streamlined, open layout. According to Burlington, the format makes it quicker and easier to shop.

It will also show off the South Jersey-based off-price retailer’s new store logo – “Deals. Brands. WOW!”

Formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory, the chain sells branded apparel, footwear, accessories and home goods at up to 60% off other retailers’ prices. Its footprint of 1,115 stores throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico includes 52 locations in New Jersey.

As part of a goal to open 500 new stores by the end of 2028, the 53-year-old company is transitioning to a smaller, 25,000-square-foot format to enable more cost-efficient, high-traffic placements in strip centers and urban retail hubs.

According to Burlington, half of its existing stores have already been converted and most remaining locations are expected to feature to the new format by the end of 2026.

It is also pursuing strategic real estate acquisitions by assuming attractive retail properties formerly occupied by bankrupt retailers, such as Bed Bath & Beyond and Joanne.

At Madison International Realty-owned Columbia Park Center, Burlington takes over space previously occupied by defunct discount chain Big Lots. Additional tenants at the John F. Kennedy Boulevard property also include Carter’s, Gap Factory, Dollar Power, Old Navy, OshKosh B’Gosh, ShopRite, Labcorp, Pizza Hut, The UPS Store and T-Mobile.

The announcement comes a few weeks after Levin Management Corp. revealed that Burlington will move into a former P.C. Richard & Sons at St. Georges Crossing in Woodbridge.
