Thanks to more than $500,000 in federal grant funding, Capital Health launched its new Advanced Simulation Training Center, a mobile simulation lab that provides state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary clinical training for health care professionals.
U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, D-12th District, who secured the funding, was recognized at a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, the health provider announced Oct. 13.
Physicians, nurses, emergency medical service providers and other staff can use the mobile center to train in areas such as advanced cardiac life support, interventional procedures, management of acute hemorrhagic crises, childbirth, infant resuscitation and team care.
The 40-foot unit has two large simulation rooms equipped with manikins to simulate real patient scenarios. Instructors create the situations, document participants’ performance and provide feedback.
“As part of our mission to improve services for urban and suburban patients, Capital Health has made a commitment to becoming a leading academic health center for the region,” Al Maghazehe, president and CEO of Capital Health, said in a statement. “The Advanced Simulation Training Center is the latest demonstration of that commitment.”

Maghazehe also thanked Watson Coleman for helping to “bring this initiative to life.”
“For over 125 years, Capital Health has provided high-quality medical care to local residents. I am so grateful that some of our country’s finest medical professionals are right here in Trenton and this new mobile lab will help reach further into our neighborhoods to better serve some of our most vulnerable populations,” Watson Coleman said about the new training center.
The simulation labs also will be used for process improvement, medical error investigation and research, and will be used for health education and wellness screenings at community-based events.
Also part of its mission to serve the community, Capital Health announced Sept. 22 the Trenton Neighborhood Initiative, a $10 million project goal to benefit the community surrounding its flagship hospital on Brunswick Avenue.
