A recent spinal procedure marked the first complex surgery by a partnership between Rothman Orthopaedic Institute and CarePoint Health Systems that was announced in March 2021.
“I am so pleased to see this important partnership come to fruition and am honored to have the opportunity to serve the community here in Hudson County and beyond,” said Dr. Michael Smith, who performed the procedure at Hoboken University Medical Center. “Having the first spinal surgery under our belt is only the beginning of what we will be able to deliver to this community with our focus on enhancing access to top quality musculoskeletal care together.”
According to the 2021 announcement, the partnership created the Orthopedic Centers of Excellence at Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital in Jersey City to deliver enhanced care.

“We are thrilled for the partnership between Rothman Orthopaedics and CarePoint Health to be successfully underway,” Dr. Achintya Moulick, president and CEO of CarePoint Health, said after the recent procedure.
Moulick added that the partnership “holds limitless possibilities for advancing orthopedic care in Hudson County.”
Dr. Christopher Olivia, CEO of Rothman Orthopaedics, said, “This kind of success so early in the Rothman Orthopaedics and CarePoint partnership is exactly what we’ve envisioned when we established this relationship.”
Founded in 1970, Rothman Orthopaedics is the largest orthopedic surgical practice in the U.S., with 14 practice operations in New Jersey alone and a new Hudson County outpatient location that recently opened in Journal Square in partnership with CarePoint.
CarePoint Health operates Bayonne Medical Center, Christ Hospital in Jersey City, and Hoboken University Medical Center. In May, CarePoint announced it completed the hospitals’ ownership transition to a community-based nonprofit.
