The Gateway Development Commission (GDC) announced the installation of an EarthCam panoramic camera Wednesday at the site of the Tonnelle Avenue Bridge and Utility Relocation Project.

That project broke ground in November with completion expected by fall 2025. It is a key early work component of the Hudson Tunnel Project. The project involves the relocation of utilities as well as the construction of a new roadway bridge for Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen.

GDC officials say the EarthCam initiative is part of its commitment to public engagement and information throughout this construction process. Beginning April 3, live images of the project site are available on the GDC website. Daily updates of progress as well as periodic time-lapse footage will be released throughout the construction.

The work will:

  • Allow for a connection to the new tunnel portal at the western slope of the New Jersey Palisades;
  • Provide construction access between the staging sites on either side of Tonnelle Avenue; and
  • Enable entry point access for tunnel boring machines, which will dig the Palisades Tunnel portion of the project.

As reported by NJBIZ, construction is now active on both sides of the Hudson River for what is described as the nation’s most critical infrastructure project.
