Vango Development officially broke ground on a new five-story mixed-use building in East Rutherford.
Rising at 263 Hackensack St., The Parker East will add 86 luxury rental residences along with approximately 1,100 square feet of street-level retail space, according to a May 5 announcement from the developer.
A $25 million loan from ConnectOne Bank funds the construction. Facilitated by ConnectOne Bank President Elizabeth Magennis and Managing Director Bill Tierney, the funding closed in January 2025.
Delivery of The Parker East is expected by June 2026. According to Vango Development CEO Van Golemis, the latest project reflects the firm’s commitment to well-connected communities. “We’re excited to begin construction on this project, which continues our investment in Bergen County,” he said.
The Parker East is a short walk from the Rutherford Train Station, as well as shops, restaurants and entertaining at the center of town.
The Taylor Lucyk Group-Christie’s International Real Estate Group NJ will oversee the leasing program for The Parker East. Mahwah-based Coli Construction serves as the project’s general contractor.
MHS Architecture of Hoboken designed The Parker East.
Featuring a prominent corner entrance at the intersection of Hackensack Street and Winter Place, a decorative trellis will accent the site, according to Vango. Additional design touches will include a dark brick base with clean, contemporary lines. Overall, the aesthetic aims to reflect the scale and texture of neighboring town centers, the developer said.
Amenities at The Parker East aim to foster community and meet the demands of modern renters. Touches will include: a fitness center with cardio and free weight zones; fully furnished lounge and clubroom; sophisticated lobby with lounge seating, breakout work areas and on-site management; a dog spa and covered garage parking.
Above, a signature rooftop terrace will feature BBQ stations, dining areas and lounges. At the center of the building, a landscaped courtyard will offer additional grills and gathering spaces.
“The design of The Parker East embraces its role as a gateway to East Rutherford,” commented Bruce Stieve, principal, MHS Architecture. “From its strategic corner entry to its elevated rooftop amenities, the building was conceived to be experienced from all angles, whether walking from the train, driving along Route 17, or stepping into the building’s light-filled interior spaces. The materiality, scale, and programming reflect a deep understanding of both the site and the lifestyle expectations of today’s residents.”
Vango Development’s movement on The Park East follows the successful development and lease-up of The Parker in neighboring Rutherford.
The two-building boutique luxury rentals debuted in 2023. Along with 112 apartments and amenities, the property includes 8,000 square feet of street-level retail. Along with Steven’s Café, The Salad House and Ferretti Salon, Song’E Napule rounds out the commercial tenancy. The popular pizzeria and trattoria made history as the first Rutherford business to obtain a liquor license since the late 1800s.
