The Economic Development Authority voted Friday to approve a 10-year, $59 million Grow New Jersey award for WeWork Companies, an international collaborative office space community, to establish a Jersey City location.The project calls for WeWork to lease about 101,000 square feet at One Journal Square. The company is also considering a location in Stamford, Connecticut.

The EDA expects the project to create 723 new full-time jobs and yield an estimated net benefit of $63.2 million back to the state over a period of 20 years.

The project is tied to a larger $400 million, mixed-use development planned for One Journal Square. WeWork is a 50 percent partner in a venture known One Journal Square Partners Member LLC, with other half including KABR Group and the Kushner Cos.

The venture was approved for a separate incentive Friday, a $34 million award under the Economic Redevelopment and Growth program. Along with the co-working space, the project calls for 744 apartment units, 78,000 square feet of retail space and 388-space parking garage.

The so-called One Journal Square Enterprise would generate an estimated 625 construction jobs and 1,530 permanent jobs, according to an EDA memo. The developers anticipate completing the project by spring 2018.

Also Friday, IPAK Inc., a West Deptford-based business solutions firm, received approval for a 10-year, $17.1 million Grow New Jersey award to relocate to Camden as opposed to an alternative location in Philadelphia.

By moving to Camden, New Jersey would retain 114 IPAK in-state employees. The EDA estimates that over a 35-year period, the project would offer a net benefit of $5.7 million to the state.
