One of New Jersey’s largest engineering firms is expanding its global footprint.Langan Engineering & Environmental Services, which is based in Elmwood Park, announced this week that it has opened a London office. The firm said in a news release that the site “will provide a critical conduit for the firm’s international practice,” serving to facilitate business among developers, architects, construction companies and allied consultants that are also located in London.
The expansion marks the latest international office established by Langan, following the opening of a Panama office in February to service its projects in Latin America. The firm, which has some 350 employees in New Jersey and 1,000 globally, is the third-largest engineering firm in the state based on the number of licensed engineers here.
“Many of our international projects involve clients and design firms that are located in London, so it became quite clear to us that being in London is strategically important,” said George Leventis, managing director of Langan International. “Our new Langan office brings us closer to such partners and will improve our ability to team with them to bring even more value to our international clients.”
The London office will be led by Langan associate Can Karayel, who works with fellow associate Paul Gildea to lead the firm’s projects in countries ranging from Turkey to Kazakhstan to Saudi Arabia to the United Arab Emirates, the news release said. From London, they will continue to manage Langan offices and projects in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul and Doha.
“George Leventis, Can Karayel and Paul Gildea have done a tremendous job supporting our clients in Europe and the Middle East,” David T. Gockel, Langan’s CEO and president, said in a prepared statement. “Now, with an office in London, a global city where major decisions are made about development projects around the world, we are better positioned to grow our international business relationships.”
Langan has 20 total regional offices, including sites as far west as San Francisco, and other international locations such as Dubai and Athens.
