The Rippel Foundation promotes Lieber
Alan Lieber, a leader in health system innovation, was named chief operating officer and chief health care strategist of The Rippel Foundation at the beginning of 2023. He previously served as executive vice president at the foundation. In his new role, Lieber will leverage his deep experience in the health care sector to further Rippel’s mission of advancing an equitable future for health and well-being for all. He has responsibility for guiding Rippel’s strategic direction and building cross-sector partnerships with health systems, philanthropy, business, government, and other changemakers to transform systems and have a positive, long-term impact on population health.
Prior to joining Rippel, Lieber served as a health care executive for nearly 40 years. He spent 18 years as president of Overlook Medical Center and as vice president of Atlantic Health System (AHS). Fostering an innovative and engaging culture has been key to his professional efforts. While at Overlook and AHS, Lieber helped launch the Optimus Accountable Care Organization, a physician-led coalition that produced the highest scores in physician quality and the greatest Medicare savings in New Jersey. Under Lieber’s leadership, Overlook team members developed a patented Insulin Safety Box that is now sold nationally, launched a 3D printing program, and implemented the first cyberknife in the northeast. During Lieber’s tenure, Overlook also became a top-rated regional medical center with excellent clinical outcomes and was recognized as one of the top 50 hospitals for patient safety. With Lieber at the helm, Project Greenhealth named Overlook as one of the top Hospitals for Environmental Excellence.
Lieber has served in leadership roles on numerous boards focused on strengthening the community and businesses. He currently serves on the boards of Jewish Home Family (long-term care and home care service delivery) and Barnert Temple; previously served on the board of the New Jersey Hospital Association; was the chair of the Cornell University Sloan Program in Health Care Administration Alumni Association Board; and served as the chair of the Gateway Chamber of Commerce. He received bachelor’s and MBA degrees from Cornell University and served on the Cornell College of Human Ecology Dean’s advisory committee.
Lieber brings to Rippel an in-depth understanding of the challenges, solutions, and opportunities in the health care sector. He is committed to helping health systems and health care leaders expand their efforts to create deep change and make meaningful investments in the health of the communities they serve.
Founded in 1953, Rippel is a nonprofit operating foundation dedicated to fostering equitable health and well-being for all.
