To determine the 2023 rankings, Inc. examined participants’ revenue growth from the preceding two-year period. Eligible applicants must be U.S. based, privately held, for-profit and independent (not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies); have generated revenue by March 31, 2019; have generated at least $100,000 in revenue in 2019; gave generated $1 million in revenue in 2021; and have 2021 revenue exceeding revenue in 2019. Inc. also said it reserves the right to decline applicants for subjective reasons.

Editor’s note: Inc. included construction company EDG at No. 151 in its list of ranked New Jersey companies. However, the city listed appears as New York, and that company’s website also indicates it is based in New York. Inc. did not return a request for comment requesting further clarification so EDG is not included in the list of New Jersey companies in this post.
