The conglomerate’s deal for Metem Corporation, which provides precision cooling hole manufacturing technologies that enable turbine engines to function more efficiently, was first announced in December.

GE said turbine blade cooling is an important component of its next generation of advanced gas turbines, prompting the decision to bring Metem’s capabilities in-house. GE had been Metem’s largest customer.

“Gas turbines coupled with services are the core of GE Power,” Mike Chanatry, vice president of Gas Power Systems Supply Chain for GE, said in a prepared statement at the time the deal was announced. “Our acquisition of Alstom’s power business has significantly improved our competitiveness, particularly in our technology leadership position and global presence. But we have not stopped there. In addition to adding to the GE Store capabilities, acquiring Metem would help achieve synergies by improving the overall cost base of products.”

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The companies are operating as separate businesses until the formal close of the deal, with Metem’s current leadership team in place.
