Biz Around the StateTechnology and manufacturing company Honeywell has agreed to acquire Metrologic Instruments, Inc., a Blackwood-based manufacturer of laser and imaging bar code scanners, for approximately $720 million. Metrologic, which is majority-owned by private equity firm Francisco Partners, will merge with Honeywell Security, part of Honeywell”s Automation and Control Solutions business. The transaction is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2008.

The acquisition follows Morris Township-based Honeywell’s October 2007 purchase of Hand Held Products, a manufacturer of automatic identification and data collection products and services in Skaneateles Falls, N.Y. The two deals will give Honeywell stronger footing in the $16 billion data collection industry, according to Roger Fradin, president and CEO of Honeywell ACS.
