Georgia Institute of Technology’s top-ranking information technology administrator is heading to .

Daren Hubbard has been appointed Princeton’s vice president for information technology and chief information officer, effective Jan. 3, 2024. He will succeed James “Jay” Dominick, who has served in the role since 2012, the university said in a Nov. 21 hiring announcement.

Bringing more than 25 years of leadership in higher education and strategy to the new role, Hubbard has served in a similar capacity at Georgia Tech since September 2020. Prior to that, he held various IT positions at Wayne State University in Detroit for more than 21 years, according to his LinkedIn profile.

“Daren Hubbard distinguished himself in our search by his clear understanding of data governance and the potential for new technologies to transform administrative use cases on campus and beyond,” Princeton Provost Jennifer Rexford said in a statement, adding that his “empathic leadership” will be key in understanding the needs of the university’s teaching and research communities.

Hubbard will be responsible for providing strategic leadership to identify, develop and implement information systems, services and Princeton’s technical infrastructure.

He will lead the university’s Office of Information Technology, a staff of more than 300 employees, and is tasked with transitioning the office to a new organizational structure, reporting to the executive vice president, the university said.

Callow-Wright said the goal of the new structure “will be a springboard for facilitating digital initiatives across service organizations, leveraging enterprise software for resource planning and protecting the University from cyber threats.”

Hubbard earned a bachelor’s in political science from the University of Michigan, as well as a Master of Library Science and an MBA, both from Wayne State University.

Princeton University's new Frist Health Center will be more than twice as large as the current McCosh Health Center, with serene spaces including a winter garden.
