Johnson & Johnson, with support from the Johnson & Johnson Foundation, announced Jan. 27 it has donated $100 million in medtech products since 2020.

Building on this effort, the company plans to contribute an additional $20 million in 2026 to fund programs and impact investments that strengthen the workforce as well as increase access to specialized care.

The new investment is part of J&J CareCommunity. The social impact platform focuses on championing health workers and advancing access to quality care.

“With these efforts, we’re accelerating the work of J&J CareCommunity, partnering with global and local organizations to deliver new tools, training and sustained support that frontline care teams need to expand access to specialized care,” said Tim Schmid, executive vice president and worldwide chairman of medtech at Johnson & Johnson. “As a leader in medical technology, we know that delivering specialized care doesn’t just help people. It also fuels healthier communities, stronger economies and lasting change.”

The New Brunswick-headquartered health care giant stressed that access gaps in specialized care remain vast, driven by shortages of trained health workers, limited technology and weak infrastructure. Nearly 5 billion people globally still lack access to safe surgery, the company noted.

Johnson & Johnson and the are addressing these challenges by donating medical technologies and supporting training programs that reach more than 300,000 health care professionals each year.

Outreach

Through J&J CareCommunity, the company collaborates with partners including:

  • American Heart Association
    Expanding access to CPR education and training, including hands-only CPR programs and community-based learning initiatives
  • Global Surgery Foundation
    Strengthening surgical systems in low- and middle-income countries through support for surgical teams, workforce training and global learning platforms
  • MAP International (Medicine for All People)
    Equipping health workers with essential surgical tools, including sutures, intraocular lenses, bladder sounds, fistula scissors, catheter organizers and other medical supplies, for safe surgery
  • Operation Smile
    Delivering life-changing cleft surgeries while equipping local health workers with the training and leadership skills needed to sustain care in their communities
  • SEE International
    Supporting medical teams and volunteers in delivering free, sight-restoring surgeries to people living with cataracts
  • Sight For Kids (with Lions Clubs International Foundation)
    Providing no-cost vision screenings and eye care to children in low-income schools worldwide and training community health workers to expand access to care; has reached more than 55 million students worldwide

Kristie Magee Porcaro, chief strategy officer, Operation Smile, said safe surgery gives children the chance to breathe freely, speak clearly and move through life with confidence.
